Last Year We Bought This AC Some Time. This Year It Was Time to Replace It.

I remembered the address before I remembered the homeowner’s name.
Beechridge Drive.
We’d been there about a year earlier because the air conditioner had stopped cooling.
After checking everything over, we found the system was low on refrigerant. We charged it back up, made sure everything was cooling again, and spent a few minutes talking through what we were seeing.
Sometimes that’s all a system needs.
Sometimes it isn’t.
We don’t like replacing equipment that still has life left in it
There’s an assumption out there that HVAC companies just want to sell new equipment.
Honestly…that’s never been how we operate.
If we think we can safely get another season—or maybe a few more years—out of a system, we’ll tell people that.
That’s exactly what happened here.
The homeowner wasn’t ready to replace her air conditioner, and at that point, we didn’t think she needed to.
The recharge bought her another year.
I actually think that’s a pretty good outcome.
Then the phone rang again
About a year later we saw the same address on the schedule.
I remember one of the guys saying, “I think we were just here last summer.”
He was right.
This time the air conditioner wasn’t coming back.
Once we started checking things over, it became pretty obvious we had reached the point where putting more money into the old system just didn’t make sense anymore.
There’s a difference between repairing equipment…
…and chasing it.
Nobody wins when you’re constantly repairing an air conditioner that’s reached the end of its life.
We switched gears
Once the homeowner decided to move forward, things happened pretty quickly.
We got the new equipment ordered.
Scheduled the installation.
Removed the old system.
Installed the new one.
By the time we pulled out of the driveway, the house was cooling again.
Honestly, those are the jobs everybody likes.
Not because someone had to buy new equipment.
Because the uncertainty is over.
No wondering if it’ll make it through another heat wave.
No hoping it’ll somehow start cooling again tomorrow.
It’s fixed.
Looking back, I still think we made the right recommendation
Some companies would’ve pushed for a replacement the first time we were there.
We didn’t.
The homeowner got another year out of her existing equipment before making that investment.
When replacement finally became the right answer, we were ready to help with that too.
That’s how we think service should work.
Give people honest recommendations today, even if it means waiting until next year to install a system.
Funny enough…that’s usually why people call us back.
Not because we sold them something.
Because we didn’t.
If your air conditioner isn’t keeping up, we’ll tell you what we’d tell our own family. Maybe it needs a repair. Maybe it needs refrigerant. Maybe it’s time for a replacement. Either way, you’ll know exactly where you stand before making a decision.
