One thing I remember about this job…
The husband said, “We’ve been dealing with this for years.”
Not angry.
Not frustrated.
Just tired of living with it.
If you’ve ever had a house where one floor feels great and another never quite catches up, you know what he meant without him having to explain much more.
Every season came with the same routine
The upstairs always seemed to have a mind of its own.
Winter wasn’t quite right.
Summer wasn’t either.
You end up adjusting thermostats, closing vents, opening vents back up…then somebody in the house is comfortable while somebody else isn’t.
It becomes normal after a while.
People stop expecting the house to feel right.
That’s kind of where they were.
We spent some time talking before talking equipment
I always think those conversations matter.
It’s easy to walk in and say, “You need this.”
It’s better to understand what people are actually trying to fix.
For them, it wasn’t about buying new HVAC equipment.
It was about being comfortable in every part of the house for the next several years.
That’s a different conversation.
The solution wasn’t just replacing one system
After looking everything over, we put together a plan that fit the house.
Our crew installed:
- Two new air conditioning systems
- One mini-split system to improve comfort in an area that needed more independent temperature control
I remember one of the installers saying, “This is going to cool a whole lot different when we’re done.”
Everybody kind of laughed.
He wasn’t trying to make a sales pitch.
He was just looking at the layout of the house.
Those are the jobs you enjoy coming back to
Some installations are just replacing equipment that failed.
This one felt a little different.
The goal wasn’t simply getting cold air blowing again.
It was finally solving something they’d been putting up with for years.
That’s a lot more satisfying.
When you know the homeowner is going to notice the difference every day instead of only thinking about it when something breaks…those are good installs.
Comfort shouldn’t depend on what room you’re standing in
Homes change over time.
Families grow.
Rooms get used differently.
Sometimes the HVAC system that worked years ago just isn’t the right fit anymore.
That’s okay.
The important part is finding a solution that actually matches how the home is being lived in today.
For this family, that meant two new air conditioners and a mini-split working together to give them the comfort they’d been missing.
Hopefully, the thermostat won’t be a topic of conversation around the dinner table anymore.
